The Sun Prairie Business Park will also provide the infrastructure and framework necessary to meet the energy needs of companies located in the park. Electricity will be provided by Sun Prairie Water & Light
(SPWL), a locally-owned municipal utility that is supplied by Wisconsin Public Power Inc (WPPI), a statewide consortium of municipal electric utilities. SPWL, in conjunction with WPPI, is able to offer businesses
a wide variety of support and services including conservation and efficiency, on-site generation, power quality, interruptible load, uninterruptible load, and renewable energy programs. Similarly, We
Energies, the natural gas supplier to the business park, has a variety of conservation and efficiency services it can offer to business park tenants. These energy partners are also prepared to support on-site
renewable generation, e.g. bioenergy or solar energy, as well as cogeneration and standby generation capabilities that tenants may wish to develop at their facilities.
An energy advisory team will be created to provide regulatory guidance and maintain relationships with local energy providers, large scale users, the State of Wisconsin, and the University of Wisconsin. Included
in this team will be WE Energies and Wisconsin Public Power Inc. These energy partners are prepared to work with business park tenants both in meeting specialized energy needs and in developing partnerships
throughout the region.
Plans for expansion of the business park include a processing and energy production zone where power could be generated for use within the business park. Agricultural inputs from the farmland production zone and greenhouses could be processed into biomass and used to generate clean energy. Additionally, wind turbine fields, located on high points in the park, as well as solar or fuel cell energy systems, could be used to produce clean energy for distribution through the Park’s mini-grid. |
